Erin Nelson Sweeney

My name is Erin Nelson Sweeney, and I am an award-winning visual journalist in the greater Birmingham-metro area. I graduated from the University of Alabama in May 2013 with a bachelor's degree in visual journalism.

I am the former Director of Photography at Starnes Media in Birmingham, Ala., where I created photo and video content for six monthly community newspapers. Other responsibilities included photographing advertising clients for monthly ads and special content packages, posting regular content to each of the Instagram accounts in the form of photos, stories and reels.

I began my professional career working as a photography intern at The Tuscaloosa News in 2012. I continued working as a freelancer for The News and was hired as a full-time staff photographer in 2014.
